WHAT WE'RE ABOUT: Karin Marchus, owner and stylist at BOSTON CUTTERS SALON FOR COLOR has had a passion for hair since a young child. As a teenager she spent much of her time practicing the latest styles on her family and friends ....She began her career as a professional after graduating from Orange Coast College School of Cosmetology in California. She entered and won first place trophies in hair color and styling competitions in various competitive venues ....KUTS by Karin was her first salon in Lake Tahoe. While there she styled various celebrity performers including Joan Rivers, Kay Stevens and the Fifth Dimension as well as the comedian Avery Schreiber ....After moving to Portland, Oregon she opened Boston Cutters in 1981. Karin continues her early passion for coloring and cutting hair while putting her years of experience into every new client.

Celebrating 33-years in business on Hawthorne Blvd in July 2014. Have seen numerous businesses come and go and I have stood the test of time...I have an enormously loyal clientele and appreciate each and every one of them. They continue to allow me to cut and color their hair year after year and I'm very proud of their confidence. I always try to consider their individuality and make recommendations about new styling and cutting techniques that I think would enhance their appearance. I've continued to search for those hair color products that produce a color effect that is natural and yet doesn't fade out too quickly.

Before doing any services I take the time to listen to each client's ideas about their hair. Then I often make a suggestion or two and we proceed. Before cutting I always determine how the client's hair grows and feels and from those inputs begin to make my cut. I've developed cutting and coloring techniques over the years that my clients have grown to depend on.

If it's your first visit to Boston Cutters Salon for Color, here is a little preview of what your first appointment will be like.

First we talk about your natural hair, I like to feel the texture, condition and see how much wave pattern you have.

Then we look together at styles, colors or cuts, it is always enlightening to hear what a client sees in a picture and why they like it. As we review the pros and cons, we start to develop a plan.

For instance, will the desired variations be compatible with the color of their skin or hair length, face shape, bangs or no bangs, etc. This consultation is always included with every service I offer.
